Matt Thomas was named Sports Information Director at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in August of 2007.
Thomas earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication from Southeastern in 2004 and completed his Master’s of Education in Sport Administration at Wichita State University in 2007.
He returns to SE after spending a season on staff a The University of Tulsa. While at TU he handled media realtions for track and field, cross country and TU's nationally-ranked Tennis program. In addition, Thomas worked closely with football, basketball and softball throughout the season.
Thomas began his career as a graduate assistant at Wichita State where he had media relations responibilities for cross country and track and field while also serving as the webmaster for GoShockers.com.
Following his stint at WSU, Thomas spent one season as an assistant at Angelo State where he handled volleyball, men's basketball and baseball, while also working closely with football, track and field and cross country.
In addition to his sports information work, Thomas has a background in sports broadcasting and has worked on high school football radio broadcasts since 2003. On the television side, he started as an intern with Fox Sports Southwest in Dallas, Texas, and since coming to Southeastern has produced Inside Southeastern Sports on KXII.
He has also worked in depth in event planning and management, helping to host events such as the 2004 and 2008 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships, the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament, the 2005 MVC Softball Championship, the 2006 Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Tournament.
The Southeastern Oklahoma State University sports information office provides timely and accurate information to members of the media, student-athletes, coaches and fans. The office promotes and publicizes each of the 11 varsity programs and the rodeo team.
Other areas of responsibility handled by the sports information office include producing the content for the official athletic web site of Southeastern Oklahoma State University Athletics, arranging all interviews with student-athletes and coaches, compiling and archiving statistics, writing game stories as well as producing media guides and publications.
