SE Holds on For Win over SNU

Box Score BETHANY, Okla. – Southeastern put two players in double-figures and survived a slugfest on the road, picking up a 52-47 victory over Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon in Bethany, Okla.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 14-10 on the year and 10-8 in Great American Conference play.
 
Mateus Oliveira led the way for SE with 14 points, while Chris Roussell added 11 points to reach double-digits for the sixth-straight game and the 23rd time on the season.
 
Steven Kohli finished with nine points and Quinton Threadgill added eight.
 
Kohli would also lead the way on the glass with eight rebounds, while Threadgill dished out a team-high five assists.
 
“The biggest stat that jumped out at me” said head coach Kelly Green, “Was that we only turned the ball over seven times.  I think we only had two in the first half.”
 
“We had a chance to fold,” Green continued, “We got away from what we were doing.  But we were fortunate to hold on at the end.”
 
The game got off to a slow start, with SE crawling to a 6-0 lead with 15:06 to play in the half.
 
The Storm would lead the entire first half, pushing the edge out to a first-half-high eight points on an Oliveira jumper with 1:39 to play that set he halftime score at 23-15.
 
A Kohli jumper on SE's first possession pushed the lead to double-figures, and a Roussell three with 18:00 to play would give the Storm a 12 point lead, its largest of the contest.
 
Southeastern would lead by 10 points with 9:15 to play before SNU mounted a 13-23 run to take a 44-43 lead with 4:14 to play.
 
Andris Misters would respond with a three to regain the lead for SE with 3:21 to play.
 
SE would later push that advantage back to five points with 1:35 to play on a Kohli jumper.
 
A pair of SNU free throws would again close the edge to just one possession, but Roussell would go to the line with two seconds to play and hit a pair of free throws to fashion he 52-47 final score.
