SE Rally Falls Short in GAC Tourney Loss to OBU

Box Score BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Southeastern rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to close to within one-point late in the game, but was unable to complete the comeback against Ouachita Baptist, falling 67-60 in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament on Friday night in Bartlesville, Okla.
 
The loss ends the Savage Storm season with a 15-12 record.
 
SE put three players in double-digits with Andris Misters turning in a game-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting including a pair of threes.
 
Steven Kohli ended his Southeastern career with a 19 point performance on the strength of an 11-of-14 effort from the free throw line.
 
Mateus Oliveira rounded out SE's double-digit scorers with 11 ppints.
 
Chris Roussell had a rough night shooting and finished with five points, all coming from the free throw line, but did haul in a team-best eight rebounds.
 
Aside from leading the team in scoring, Misters finished off the evening with a team-high four assists.
 
The Storm finished with a 33.3 percent shooting night from the floor and found things even tougher from long range, hitting 2-of-14 from three-point range.
 
SE connected on 26-of-33 from the charity stripe, but saw OBU finish a perfect 19-for-19.
 
The Tigers also shot 38.2 percent from the field and connected on six threes.
 
OBU pushed its halftime lead out to seven points early in the second half, but back-to-back layups from Misters and Kohli closed the gap back to three and a pair of Misters' free throws with 14:10 to play would cut the gap to just two points.
 
The Tigers, however, followed that with a 10-0 run to mount a 44-32 lead with 12:32 to play which was halted by a Travis Timmons layup.
 
The Storm then slowly reeled OBU in, first closing the gap to three points on a Kohli jumper with 5:39 to play.
 
Just over a minute later a pair of Kohli free throws would leave SE trailing 54-53 with 4:38 to play.
 
Southeastern would again close the gap to one point with 1:47 to play on another Kohli free throw.
 
The Storm, however, would not be able to close out the rally as OBU would outscore SE 11-5 over the final 1:47 to hold on for the 67-60 win.
 
OBU scored the game's first bucket, but the Storm answered with an 8-0 run capped by a Misters layup with 15:24 to play in the half.
 
The Tigers responded with a 7-1 run of their own to knot the game at 9-9 with 13:10 to play.
 
Misters would then bookend a 7-0 run, capped by a three with 10:08 remaining in the first to mount an 18-11 lead.
 
OBU would close the gap to just three points, but an Oliveira tip-in at the 8:08 mark put SE in front 20-15.
 
OBU, however, would use an 8-0 run to take a 23-20 lead with 6:27 to play in the half.
 
Both teams would then follow with a 5:16 dry spell before Oliveira would connect on a pair of free throws with 1:11 to play to cut the deficit to 23-22, but the Tigers would have the last word in the half with a pair of free throws with 14 seconds to play to take a n25-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
