Southeastern Volleyball Downs Lions

COMMERCE, Texas – Emily Gentle led all attackers with a 20 kill performance as Southeastern picked up a 3-1 non-conference win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday night in Commerce, Texas.
 
The win lifts the team to 13-11 overall heading into Saturday's Great American Conference matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.
 
The performance was Gentle's second 20-plus kill outing of the season and 16th double0digit performance as she hit .357 for the match.
 
She was joined in double-figures by Megan Kunkel with 13 kills, while Caitlyn Mills and Julia Benford each added seven.
 
Alissa Benson dished out 32 assists for the night and added four kills, eight digs and two blocks in the effort.
 
Kelsey Zerkel turned in a team-high 17 digs, while Courtney Miller added 13 and Kunkel completed a double-double with 10.
 
As a team the Storm outblocked TAMUC 10.0-to-4.0, led by the six blocks from Mills and the five from Gentle.
 
SE opened up a lead early in the first set and never trailed.  The Lions would close the gap and tie the set at 19-19, but the Storm would reel off five-straight points to regain control and take the set 25-20.
 
Southeastern jumped out to a big lead in the second set as well, but saw a five-point lead disappear as TAMUC used a 12-1 run to mount a 19-15 lead and would even the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 win.
 
SE fell behind early in the third set but would bounce back and eventually score nine of the last 11 points in the set to win 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead.
 
The teams would battle back-and-forth in the fourth set, eventually knotting the score at 22-22 before the Storm took three of the final four points to clinch the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.
