DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern had five players with double-digit kills, but was unable to complete the rally from a 2-0 deficit, falling to Texas Woman's 3-2 on Wednesday night in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 15-12 overall on the year heading into the final home game of the season on Nov. 1 when SE hosts Ouachita Baptist.
Megan Kunkel led the team with 17 kills, while Emily gentle was next up at 14.
Caitlyn Mills added a season-high 12 kills in the effort, while
Courtney Miller and
Julia Benford each added 11.
Alissa Benson triggered the offense with a season-high 56 assists while also adding 14 digs.
Kelsey Zerkel led a group of five players with double-digit dig tallies, turning in a game-high 24 digs, while Benson, Miller and Kunkel each chipped in 14 and Gentle added 12.
Benford led the net defense with five blocks, while Gentle added four.
SE fell behind 2-0 with TWU using big runs in the first and second sets to pick up wins of 25-19 and 25-18.
The Storm started the rally late in the third set, breaking a 22-22 tie with three fo the next four points to take the set 25-23.
The Storm fell behind 8-3 early in the fourth set, but used a five-point run and two four-point runs to mount a 21-14 lead and eventually pick up the 25-20 win to event he match at 2-2.
SE fell behind 5-3 midway through the fifth set, but rallied and held a 13-10 lead.
However, the Pioneers would score seven of the next nine points to hand the Storm a 17-15 loss in the set.
