Southeastern Picks Up 53-7 Win on Saturday

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern's defense posted its best effort of the season, holding Bacone to 148 yards of total offense, while the Savage Storm offense posted 53 points and pulled out a 53-7 victory over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at Paul Laird Field.

The win lifts the Storm to 2-3 overall on the season heading into the final of its three game home stand matchups when it hosts Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Saturday was the second time this season SE topped 50 points for the season and is the most points since posting 56 points in a win over Southern Arkansas in the 2013 season opener.

SE spread its offense around, highlighted by the full return of Devlon Wortham who finished the contest with 83 yards on 11 carries with three touchdowns.

Combined the Storm racked up 183 yards on the ground.

Through the air, three different quarterbacks completed passes with Ryan Polite going 13-of-22 for 205 yards and a touchdown.

CB Cantwell added a 3-of-4 effort for 74 yards, while Dru Smith was 1-of-2 for five yards and a TD.

Franky Okafor turned in the big receiving day with 94 yards on two receptions of 47 yards each with a touchdown.

Anthony Foster added five catches for 52 yards and Kaymon Farmer hauled in four for 33, while Xavier Smith had one catch for a five yard touchdown.

On defense Roderick Mitchell turned in a high of nine tackles with two for a loss and a forced fumble.

Damarius Lavender was right behind with seven stops, including a sack and a forced fumble.

Tanner Ginavan recovered a fumble, while Raheem Wilson picked up an interception and returned t 28 yards for a score.

Jake Walters connected on four field goals which was one shy of matching the SE record for field goals made in a game, while Devan Drake made his presence known to the Bacone kicker with a pair of punt blocks.

Jared Heim punted just three times in the game, but averaged 50.3 yards with a long of 58.

Layton Dworaczyk turned in the team's best punt return day of the season, bringing back four for 81 yards, including a long of 48 in which he almost broke free for the TD.

After getting off to a slow start, the Storm finally got on the board when Walters capped a four play drive with a 29 yard field goal for a 3-0 lead.

Two plays into BC's ensuing drive, Raheem Wilson would snag the pass on the out route and take it 28 yards for the pick-six.  It is the first pick six since Logan Russell's 100 yard interception return against Henderson State early in the 2013 season.

SE would hold the warriors to a three-and-out on the next drive and march the ball 59 yards on 11 plays before Wortham scored from a yard out, picking up his first TD since the season opener against Southern Arkansas.  However, a missed PAT would leave the lead 16-0 for the Storm.

SE would hold BC to another three and out, but after a bad snap gave SE the ball at the Bacone 40 yardline it would take Wortham just one play to cover that 40 yards for his second score of the game and stake the lead to 23-0 which is where it would be at the end of the first quarter.

SE would again hold the Warriors to a three-and-out and again take advantage of a bad snap on the punt to take over at the visitor's 11 yard line.

A pair of false start penalties would sabotage the Storm efforts and leave Walters lining up a 34 yard field goal, but it was blocked by Jeremy Sims.

Southeastern would return the favor to end the ensuing Bacone drive though as Devan Drake would get a piece of the Shad Ducharme punt and SE would take over at the BC 21 yard line.

This time they would take advantage with Wortham scoring his third TD of the day to cap a 21 yard drive and put the Storm up 30-0 with 9:27 to play in the half.

Two warrior drives later Drake would get his second blocked punt of the day and the Storm would again take advantage with Walters hitting a 28 yard field goal with 3:41 to go in the half to open up a 33-0 lead.

SE would hold on the next drive, giving the offense the ball with 1:30 to go before halftime.

Polite would complete four-straight passes, the last going 47 yards to Okafor for the touchdown with 28 seconds left to mount a 40-0 lead at the break.

Bacone would get its only points on its first possession of the second half with Omar Kharroub connecting with David Chapman for 33 yards for the touchdown to make the score 40-7.

Walters would answer again on the ensuing drive when he hit a 21 yard field goal to cap an eight play, 80 yard drive and lift the lead to 43-7.

Southeastern's final possession of the third quarter carried over into the fourth and it ended when Dru Smith picked up the ball on a bad snap as the team lined up for a field goal and rolling to his right found Xavier Smith for a five yard touchdown pass, his first in an SE uniform, making the lead 50-7.

Mitchell would force a fumble on BC's ensuing drive and Ginavan would come up with it to set the stage for Walters to connect on one more field goal, this one from 23 yards out to make the score 53-7 which would hold to be the final.
