SE Dominant in Victory over Saints

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Southeastern put five players in double-figures and shot 58.0 percent from the field as a team en route to a dominant 101-65 win over Hillsdale Freewill Baptist on Friday afternoon in Rapid City, S.D.

The win moves the Savage Storm to 2-5 and snaps a three-game losing skid heading into a Dec. 1 matchup against Dallas Christian at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

SE hit 40-of-69 for the game form the field, and was even more impressive in the second half where they were 21-of-34 for a 61.8 percent clip.

That second half effort led to a 55-30 margin in the second 20 minutes to turn an 11 point lead by the Storm at 46-35 at halftime into the 101-65 final score.

Danny Powell led the charge with a game-high 17 points on 8-10 shooting from the field, while Anton Cook was right behind with a 4-of-7 shooting performance and a 7-of-8 night at the free throw line to turn in 16 points.

Quinton Threadgill and Darius Harris each added 14 points, while Sami Bzai chipped in 10.

Taylor Smaller and Antonio Worthy each nearly reach double-digits with nine apiece.

Threadgill and Smaller each dished out four assists to lead the way and the Storm dished out 18 on the game.

The SE defense held Hillsdale to a 36.6 percent shooting night, with the defense matching the offense in the second half by holding their opponents to a 32.4 percent effort over the second half.

The biggest differential came in the paint where the Storm held a 58-24 edge in scoring.

The gap in rebounding was nearly as large with SE hauling in 45 boards to the 28 by Hillsdale.

Harris led the way with 10 on the contest to complete his double-double, while Cook and Worthy each added five boards.

Worthy also added three blocks to his totals.

Hillsdale would take a brief lead very early in the first half, but after a Smaller bucket gave the Storm a 6-5 lead they would never trail again.

SE would see their opponents tie the game a short time later, but a Worthy bucket would head up an 8-0 run for the Storm.

Southeastern would lead by as many as 15 in the first half before settling on a 46-35 advantage at the break.

The Storm would open the second half on a 12-4 run and would never look back.

The lead would cross 20 points on a Harris bucket and surpass 30 on another Harrius bucket with 5:23 to play.

The lead would grow as large at 39 points before coming to rest at 101-65.
