Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Tripped Up at SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – Southeastern had a rough night on the attack with just one player reaching double digit kills in a 3-0 loss at Southern Nazarene on Thursday night in Bethany, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 16-13 overall and 9-4 in Great American Conference play.

The loss means that the best finish SE can put together now is third place as they can take advantage of a Harding loss which keeps Southeastern just a half-game behind the Bisons.

A win on Friday at Northwestern Oklahoma State would put SE in a tie with HU who the Storm defeated 3-1 in their only meeting this season which would give them the edge in the tiebreaker.

Emily Gentle's 11 kills led Southeastern while Megan Kunkel added six and Courtney Miller chipped in five.

Alissa Benson dished out 15 assists, while Madelynne Cera added eight.

Defensively, Miller and Kunkel led the way with nine digs each, while at the net Caitlyn Mills and Kunkel each turned in a pair of blocks.

SE got off to a slow start in the first set and found itself down by nine points before using a big run to close the gap to 22-19, but SNU would score the final three points to take the set 25-19.

The second set was unfortunately similar to the first with SE falling behind 7-1 and 12-4 before again closing the gap to three points late at 20-17, but the Crimson Storm would pick up five of the last six points for the 25-18 win to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set the Storm jumped ahead early, taking a 12-8 lead.  A 13-2 run by SNU would turn the lead into a 21-14 deficit and SE would fall 25-17 in the third and clinching set.
