LAREDO, Texas – After jumping out to a 5-2 lead midway through the fourth inning, Southeastern allowed eight unanswered runs and dropped the series finale at Texas A&M-International 10-5 on Saturday afternoon in Laredo, Texas.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-2 to open the year and marks the second-straight season the team opened the season dropping two-of-three at TAMIU.

SE collected nine hits, led by
Kaleb Thomas who went 3-for-3 on the game, while six others each added a hit.
Â
Thomas also turned in a team-best three RBI, while
Cody Coats added one on a solo homer and
Logan Terwilliger drove in one on a sac fly.

The Storm used six pitchers in the game, with
Evan Sanders getting the start but lasting just 1.0 inning, allowing a pair of runs on no hits with a strikeout and four walks.

Bryce Clemens was the first reliever off the bench, tossing 2.1 innings, earning the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Keyton Jameson tossed the next 2.0 innings and was hit for three runs on three hits with a K and three walks, while
Mathew Benedict tossed one-third of an inning and was saddled with a run on two hits.

Storm Griffin came on to finish the sixth inning and tossed the entire seventh without allowing a run on just two hits.

Corban Taylor would finish the game by tossing the eighth inning and allowing a pair of hits with no runs.
Â
Southeastern fell behind in the bottom of the first as the Dustdevils put up a run, but a Terwilliger sac fly in the top of the second would knot the score at 1-1.

One batter later Thomas would double home
Jacob Soisson and Taylor to put the Storm in front 3-1.

TAMIU would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the second, but a Coats home run in the top of the third put the lead back to two runs at 4-2.

An RBI single by Thomas in the top of the fourth inning would stretch the lead to 5-2.
Â
However, the Dustdevils would get a three-run homer and a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead at 7-5.
Â
The home team would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and SE was unable to mount any kind of rally in the 10-5 loss.
