Baseball Sweeps Home Opener From CU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern bounced back from its opening weekend and opened the home schedule in style with a double-header sweep of Cameron on Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.

The Savage Storm took game one in a run-rule 12-1 before finishing off the twinbill with a 4-3 victory.

The wins lift SE to 3-2 on the season heading into an out-of-conference midweek matchup on Feb. 10 with Oklahoma Christian starting at noon at The Ballpark in Durant.

Corban Taylor, Collin Sefcik and Jacob Soisson each tallied a pair of hits in game one, while five others each added one and the Storm outhit the Aggies 11-to-2.

Coats drove in three runs in the game, while Kaleb Thomas and Soisson each added a pair of RBI, with one of Soisson's coming on a solo homer.

Evan Sanders got the start and the win as he allowed a run on two hits over 5.0 innings pitched with nine strikeouts to move to 1-0 on the season.

Bryce Clemons tossed the final 2.0 innings and struck out two while facing the minimum number of batters.

A Brandon Grimsley single would plate Thomas in the bottom of the first to open scoring.

In the second inning the Storm found its groove with Thomas drawing a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run of the inning, followed by a Coats three-run double and an RBI single by Taylor to open up a 6-0 advantage after two innings.

CU would tack on a run in the top of the third, but SE would answer back with another one in the bottom of the third on a Soisson sac fly that plated Sefcik.

Soisson would connect on a solo homer to right in the fifth.

Dylan Helms would plate a run in the bottom of the sixth, and would score later in the inning on an error by the CU shortstop.  SE would finish scoring in the sixth when Thomas reached on a fielder's choice which plated Logan Terwilliger for a 12-1 win.

In game two SE continued to outhit the Aggies, this time by an 8-to-2 margin, but three Storm errors would keep the game close.

Thomas would score in the first thanks to an error, and would drive in Soisson in the second for a 2-0 lead.

That edge stretched to 3-0 on a Grimsley groundout that plated Soisson.

CU would answer with three runs in the fifth thanks to a pair of errors and a double to knot the game at 3-3.

However, Terwilliger would answer in the bottom half of the fifth with an RBI single that scored Burcham and held to be the winning run.

Terwilliger was the only SE hitter with multiple hits in the game, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Thomas and Grimsley each added an RBI as well.

Dylan Linke got the start but was hit with his second-straight no decision after allowing three runs, just one earned, on two hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.

For the second-straight weekend Brady Colbert would get the win in relief of Linke after facing the minimum in 2.1 innings with a pair of K's.
