SE Earns Day Two Split at Regional Invite

DURANT, Okla. – No. 4 Southeastern dropped a tough rematch with No. 16 St. Mary's 3-0 to open Saturday, but closed the day in style with a 14-5 run-rule win over Newman at the 2015 Southeastern Regional Invitational at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.

The split moved the Savage Storm to 4-6 on the season heading into a weekend finale against Texas A&M-Commerce at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

SE closed out Saturday by scoring the first 14 runs of the game against NU to cruise to a 14-5 win in five innings.

Arianna Jones and Breanna Smith each collected three hits, while eight others had a hit in the game and the team tallied 14 in the contest.

Jordyn James drove in a game-high three runs, two on a homer, while Jones, Smith and Kalyn Ramber each added two RBNI.

Haley Strawn, Courtney Riddle and Conner Harmon drove in one run each.

Jacee Bennett picked up her third win of the year after tossing 3.0 innings and allowing no runs on one hit with four strikeouts, before Ashley Moore came in to throw the final 2.0 innings, allowing five runs, just one earned, on four hits.

Southeastern put up five in the first inning, first when Sydney Kramer scored on a wild pitch, followed by James' two-run homer over the center field wall.

Smith would then drive in Jones with an RBI double and score two batters later by stealing home.

The Storm picked back up in the second as Strawn doubled-home Shaina Crites and one batter later scored on a Riddle double to open up a 7-0 lead.

It stretched to 8-0 when Riddle scored on a squeeze bunt by James, followed three batters later by a Ramber RBI single and then a Harmon RBi single to take an 11-0 lead.

Jojnes would add a two-RBI single with one out in the third inning, and Smith would finish the scoring with an RBI double that scored Jones for a 14-0 lead.

NU would get five runs in the top of the fourth, but would get no closer as SE held on for the 14-5 run-rule win.

Strawn, Laramie Beal and Ramber collected a hit each in the opener against St. Mary's as the Rattlers scored late to hand the Storm a 3-0 loss.

Jessica Seay took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits in 6.1 innings.

Bennett tossed two-thirds of an inning and faced three batters.

Neither team got on the scoreboard through the first four innings, with STMU breaking through in the top of the fifth as the Rattlers would load the bases against Seay and Bennett would hit a batter to drive in a run.

St. Mary's would add a two-run RBI in the top of the seventh to fashion the 3-0 final score.
