SE Rally Falls Short in Series Finale

DURANT, Okla.  – Southeastern mounted a late rally and even put the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to complete the comeback in an 8-5 loss in the series finale against Southern Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 14-20 overall on the year and 10-9 in Great American Conference play with six conference games remaining on the schedule.
 
It was also senior day for the team's six seniors playing in their last weekend series at home.  Those seniors were Jacob Soisson, Brayon Colley, Collin Sefcik, Cody Coats, Chance Burcham and Nick Johnson.
 
Colley, along with Dylan Helms and Brandon Grimsley had a pair of hits each, while Corban Taylor and Greg Husnander each added one.
 
Soisson and Burcham each drove in a run, despite none of the team's five runs coming in on hits.
 
Nick Johnson suffered the loss after allowing eight runs, six earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts.
 
Brady Colbert tossed the final three innings and allowed a pair of hits and struck out two, facing just one more than the minimum.
 
SAU jumped out to an 8-0 lead with a run each in the third and fourth innings, followed by a pair in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
 
The Storm started its rally in the bottom of the sixth, first with Soisson driving in a run on a hit by pitch before Grimsley and Taylor would eventually come around and score on wild pitches to make the score 8-3.
 
Helms would then score on a passed ball in the ninth and Burcham would draw a bases-loaded walk to score Grimsley, making the score 8-5 and putting the tying run on first base, but the rally would run out of steam and that would hold to be the final.
