SE Falls in Series opener at UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark.  – Despite getting on the board first, Southeastern had a tough time scoring and was unable to counter a six-run third inning by Arkansas-Monticello, falling in the series opener 10-3 on Sunday afternoon in Monticello, Ark.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 14-21 on the season and 10-10 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series set for a noon double-header on Monday.
 
Brandon Grimsley and Brayon Colley each collected a pair of hits and an RBI.
 
Kaleb Thomas, Corban Taylor, Jacob Soisson and Greg Husnander would each add a hit, with Husnander driving in the team's other run.
 
Dylan Linke got the start and suffered the loss after allowing 10 runs, seven of which were earned, on 12 hits with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched.
 
Keyton Jameson tossed a hitless two innings with three strikeouts before Cody Luman finished the game with one inning pitched, allowing a hit.
 
A Grimsley double in the top of the first staked the Storm to a 1-0 lead.
 
UAM would erase that advantage with two runs in the second inning and add six more in the third to open up an 8-1 lead.
 
It would grow to 10-1 before SE got back on the board in the top of the ninth, first with an RBI single by Husnander, followed by an RBI single by Colley, but they were unable to keep the rally going, falling 10-3.
