SE Splits Double Header with Rival ECU

DURANT, Okla.  – Southeastern used a five-run fourth-inning outburst in game two to take control of the game and pick up a 5-4 win to earn a split with Rival East Central after dropping game one 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The split moves the Savage Storm record to 20-17 overall on the year and 16-6 in Great American Conference play, slipping into second from a tie for first with Henderson State, but maintaining a half-game lead over the Tigers.

SE will return to the Southeastern Softball Field for a four-game home series against Northwestern Oklahoma State April 10-11, with senior day honors planned for April 11.

The highlight of the nightcap was off the bat of Ashley Moore who connected on a three-run homer to cap off the five run inning.

That followed a Haley Strawn RBI double and an Arianna Jones RBI single earlier in the inning to open up a 5-0 lead after four innings.

ECU would get three-runs back on a homer in the top of the fifth and another in the top of the seventh, but Jessica Seay would end the game by striking out the Tigers' top hitter in Jordan VanPelt.

Seay collected her eighth win with a complete game effort, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Six different players each collected a hit for SE, with Moore posting a three run homer, Strawn adding an RBI double and Jones adding an RBI single.

The opener was the polar opposite for the Storm as the offense failed to click as it had been in recent weeks.

Laramie Beal and Haley Strawn each had a pair of hits to account for the team's four hits.

Jacee Bennett was tagged with the loss after allowing nine runs on 12 hits in 7.0 innings pitched with three strikeouts.

ECU took a one-run lead in the first and added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.

That ballooned to 9-0 with a five-run seventh inning to fashion the final score.
