Storm Stumble in 3-1 Loss at DBU

DALLAS, Texas – Southeastern's offense struggled on Tuesday night as the team was plagued by errors en route to a 3-1 road loss at Dallas Baptist in Dallas, Texas.

The loss drops the team to 8-14 overall on the year heading into a six-match Great American Conference road swing which begins Oct. 21 with a 6 p.m. contest at Arkansas-Monticello in Monticello, Ark.

The Savage Storm offense hit .109 for the match and was saddled with 30 errors for the night opposite DBU's 13.

The offensive positive was Brittney Owens who finished the contest with a season-high 15 kills and hit .303 for the match, while Julia Benford added 10 kills and Kristina Bergman chipped in eight.

Alissa Benson turned in another double-double with 35 assists and 20 digs, reaching the 20 dig mark for the second time this season. She also added three kills, two aces and a solo block.

Caitlin Cosby continued to put on a defensive show with 24 digs in the match to lead the team, while Benson's 20 were next in line, followed by 15 from Caitlyn Mills and 10 from Sophia Luna.

The Patriots used a 9-2 run midway through the first set to open up a 20-12 lead and would take the set 25-17 for a 1-0 lead.

SE bounced back in the second set and the teams traded runs before DBU was looking at set point at 24-23.  The Storm staved off that point with an Owens kill and would eventually get back-to-back kills from Bergman and Benford to win the set 28-26 and even the match at 1-1.

The momentum carried into the third set where Southeastern used an 8-1 run to open the set and led 11-3 in the early going.  However, DBU would double the Storm up 22-11 over the remainder of the set to win it 25-22 and take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth set SE played from behind for most of the way, closing to 19-17 late before a 6-1 Patriot run would bring the set to a 25-19 end and hand the Storm a 3-1 loss.
