Storm Fall to OBU in GAC Home Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Despite a monster double-double from Tyler Lonzie Southeastern saw its winning streak snapped on Thursday night in a 72-58 loss to Ouachita Baptist in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 4-4 overall on the year and 0-3 in Great American Conference play heading into a 3 p.m. matchup with Henderson State on Saturday afternoon at home.

Lonzie finished the night with 15 points to lead the way for the Storm on offense, but led all rebounders with a career-high 17 boards, including 10 on the offensive glass.

He was joined in double-digit scoring by Kevin Buckingham  who turned in 11 points and added seven rebounds.

Nathan Jackson added nine points and Jett Jobe chipped in eight.

Jobe also handed out a game-high six assists as Jackson and Anton Cook turned in three each.

The most noticeable difference came at the free throw line where the Storm shot just nine free throws, hitting three of them, as opposed to an 18-of-24 effort at the stripe for the Tigers.

Despite the difference, the contest was back and forth for much of the night, with the largest first half lead either team held being just four points, which the Storm held with 1:11 to play before settling on a 28-25 lead at the break.

The contest continued to be a see-saw affair throughout much of the second half, with SE holding a 50-49 lead after a Buckingham three with 8:53 to play.

The Tigers would reel off a 16-5 run however to open up a double-digit lead by the 2:26 mark and the Storm was unable to stop the bleeding and muster a rally as that gap would grow to a 72-58 final score in favor of OBU.
