DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got a career-high 28 points from
Rachel Wallace and stretched its winning streak to seven games with a 78-67 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday night in Shawnee, Okla.
Â
The win evens the Savage Storm overall record at 11-11 and moves them to 9-7 in Great American Conference play, with SE holding onto fifth place alone after the other three teams it entered the day tied with all fell.
Â
Southeastern will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
Wallace was 8-11 overall from the field and an even more impressive 7-of-9 from behind the arc to finish with 28 to lead all scorers.
Â
Kaylie Baxter added a 3-for-6 effort from long range to finish with 13 points, while
Shelby Hill drained a trio of threes of her own to finish with 12.
Â
Taylor Richards rounded out the teams double-digit scoring with a 50.0 percent shooting effort to finish with 10 points while dishing out a team-0best four assists.
Â
SE shot 44.6 overall from the field, but was a more efficient 58.3 percent from three-point range, hitting 14-of-24 from long range.
Â
Wallace's eight boards led all players on the glass as the Storm out-rebounded OBU 42-to-32 on the night, with Baxter and
Emem David each adding seven to the cause.
Â
Southeastern never trailed in the contest and only had the score tied four times, all in the first quarter, and when Wallace drained a three with 3:25 to go in the opening frame the Storm would go up 15-12 and never look back.
Â
SE took a 21-17 lead into the second quarter, leading by as many as eight points over the second 10 minutes before taking a 37-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Â
The Bison would cut the lead to one point twice early in the third quarter, but Wallace would answer with a three each time and when she drained a pair of free throws with one second remaining in the quarter SE would take a 52-48 lead into the final frame.
Â
Â
OBU would get the game to one possession early in the quarter, but once again a Wallace three would answer and push the lead to five points.
Â
That advantage would hit double-figures on yet another Wallace three as the storm would pull away for a 78-67 win.
