Softball Sweeps Series versus SWOSU

DURANT, Okla. – Jessica Seay and Emily Cudd combined to allow just three runs over two games as Southeastern polished off a series sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State with wins of 5-2 and 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at the SE Softball Field.

The wins lift the Savage Storm to 12-6 overall on the year and 8-0 in Great American Conference play while stretching the team's winning streak to nine games.

SE will be back in action March 4-5 in its second-straight home series when it hosts Henderson State for a four-game series.

Seay tossed a complete game in the opener, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out eight.  For the weekend Seay would strikeout 21 SWOSU hitters and walk just one while appearing in all four games, collecting a pair of wins and a save.

Jessica Simmons led the offense with a 3-for-4 outing and a pair of runs scored while swiping two more bases.

Destiny Riddle and Sydney Kramer each added a pair of hits as the top three hitters in the lineup hit 7-for-11 in the game.

Destiny Riddle would drive in three runs, while Mykaela Wallace and Conner Harmon added an RBI each.

Wallace put the Storm on the board with a perfectly executed squeeze bunt which scored Courtney Riddle in the bottom of the second inning.

Destiny Riddle would push that to a 2-0 lead with an RBI single to score Simmons in the third.

A solo homer by Taya Haney in the fourth cut the SE lead in half, but Harmon would drive in Keeshia Thompson with a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth, followed by a two-run double by Destiny Riddel to plate Harmon and Simmons and iopen up a 5-1 lead.

The Bulldogs would pick up one more run, this one unearned, in the fifth to fashion the 5-2 final score.

In the finale Cudd got the start and picked up her seventh win of the year after tossing 6.2 innings and allowing a run on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Seay would come on to retire the final batter of the game.

Wallace collected the only multi-hit outing for the Storm going 2-for-3, while Simmons, Kramer, Laramie Beal and Harmon added hits.

Harmon would drive in a pair of runs, while Courtney Riddle, Thompson and Wallace added one RBI each.

SWOSU opened up a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the first, but would not find their way home again in the contest.

Instead SE had an answer in the bottom of the first, tying the game when Courtney Riddle drew a bases-loaded walk and taking the lead a batter later when Thompson did the same.

The lead stretched to 3-1 one batter later on a Wallace RBI single.

Neither team would score in the second through the fifth innings, until SE got a two-run single by Harmon in the sixth which scored Wallace and Thompson to push the lead to 5-1 which would hold to be the final score.
