DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern head coach
Ron Faubion picked up his 800
th career victory at the collegiate level with the Savage Storm's 6-4 win over Henderson State in game one on Friday, before the team completed the day one sweep with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
Faubion's record after Friday stands at 801-337 at the college level, while his win total nearly doubles to more than 1,500 wins when his high school records are added.
The Savage Storm will wrap its four-game series with the Reddies on Saturday with a double-header slated for noon at the Southeastern Softball Field.
In the opener,
Jessica Simmons led an offense that was outhit 11-to-6 but was able to break a tie late and snag the 6-4 win.
Simmons posted a 2-for-4 outing with three RBI and two runs scored, thanks in large part to her three run homer in the fourth inning. She also added a stolen base.
Four others would add a hit each, while
Destiny Riddle,
Sydney Kramer and
Courtney Riddle each drove in a run.
Jessica Seay got the start and picked up her sixth win of the year after tossing 6.2 innings and scattering eight hits while allowing three runs and striking out nine.
Her innings bookended
Emily Cudd's appearance in which she faced five batters and allowing a run on three hits while recording one out.
HSU took an early 2-0 lead on a home run in the first inning, but the Storm answered by cutting the deficit in half on a Kramer RBI groundout to make it 2-1.
Simmons would erase that deficit and stake the Storm to a 4-2 lead in the fourth with a three-run homer to left center, but HSU would answer with a pair of runs in the fifth to knot the game at 4-4.
Courtney Riddle answered in the fifth with an RBI groundout, with
Destiny Riddle adding an RBI single in the sixth to fashion SE's 6-4 win.
Simmons continued her hot hitting into the second game where she posted a 3-for-3 outing with a pair of runs scored and two more stolen bases.
Five others would collect a hit each as the Storm out-hit HSU 8-to-4 in the game.
Laramie Beal and
Courtney Riddle would each drive in a run.
Cudd would get the start, but allowed a run on three hits over five batters to open the game, recording one out, before
Destiny Riddle would come on in relief and turn in her best pitching outing of the year with 6.2 innings pitched to earn her first win after allowing just one hit and striking out six.
The Reddies would score in the first inning again, taking a 1-0 lead, but it was the last run they would score on the day.
Southeastern again answered in the bottom of the first, tying the game on a Beal single through the right side which scored Simmons to tie the game at 1-1.
Two innings later
Destiny Riddle would reach on an error while attempting to sacrifice bunt Simons to third, allowing Simmons to score and take a 2-1 lead.
Courtney Riddle would finish off the scoring by connecting on a solo homer to center in the sixth to fashion the 3-1 final score.
