SE Pulls Away for 68-51 win over HSU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern kept its winning streak alive with its sixth-straight victory after running away with a 68-51 win over Henderson State on Saturday afternoon at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 10-11 overall on the year and 8-7 in Great American Conference play, moving them into a four-way tie for fifth, just a game out of third, heading into a Feb. 11 road matchup against Oklahoma Baptist at 5:30 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.

SE got a double-double from Rachel Wallace who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor while also adding three assists.

Katie Webb was the only other player to reach double-digits in scoring at 11 points, while 10 players scored in the contest for the Storm, with a total of seven of them scoring six or more points.

Taylor Richards dished out six assists to lead SE as the team tallied 20 for the game.

Webb and Kaylie Baxter added seven rebounds each to go with Wallace's 10 as Southeastern picked up 40 boards on the contest.

SE shot 44.1 percent from the floor on the night and held HSU to 32.1 percent shooting.

The Storm led for the entire first quarter, but gave up the first five points of the second half and found themselves down 17-14.

An Olivia Potter three would tie the game and the teams would trade the advantage again with the Reddies going back up 21-19.

Southeastern would hold HSU scoreless for the final 6:41 of the half and reel off a 15-0 run to finish the second quarter and take a 34-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

HSU would close the gap to single digits twice early in the third quarter, but Baxter would answer with a three once and Potter would hit a running jumper the second time which kicked off a 9-0 run to put SE up 46-28 with 3:16 to go in the third.

The Reddies would close the gap to 15 heading into the final frame, but would get no closer than 12 points in the fourth quarter as the Storm pulled away with a 68-51 win.
