Baseball Takes Series Opener at HU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning on the strength of a Logan Terwilliger grand slam and held off a late Harding charge to take game one of the series 5-4 on Friday afternoon in Searcy, Ark.

The game was delayed nearly two hours before starting and should the weather hold on the final two games will be played on Saturday beginning at noon.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 12-16 overall and 7-6 in Great American Conference play.

All nine starters picked up hits for SE, with Kaleb Thomas leading the way with three.

Dylan Helms and Connor Counce were right behind with two each as the Storm piled up 13 hits on the contest.

Terwilliger's four RBI led the way in that category, while Helms drove in the outstanding run.

Dylan Linke got the start and collected his third win of the year after going 7.2 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Brady Colbert came on in the eighth and recorded a four-out save, his fifth of the year, while allowing a run on two hits with two K's.

Helms put SE on the board in the top of the third inning, taking advantage of a leadoff single by Counce by driving him in with an RBI single to right.

A Thomas walk would load the bases one batter later and Terwilliger would follow that with a grand slam to open up a 5-0 lead.

The Bisons would get a run back in the seventh off Linke to end a streak of 22 innings without allowing an earned run.

HU would swipe two more off him in the bottom of the eighth before Colbert came on to get a strikeout to end the inning and preserve a 5-3 lead.

The Bisons would get a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to pull closer, but Colbert would get out of trouble and hold on for the 5-4 win.
