SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southeastern bounced back from a 9-6 loss in game one to rally for a 9-6 win in eight innings in the finale at Oklahoma Baptist to split Saturday's games and win the series in Shawnee, Okla.
Â
The split moves the Savage Storm to 26-16 overall on the year and 22-10 in Great American Conference play with a double-header against East Central in Ada, Okla., set for April 12.
Â
The nightcap played out like Friday's games as SE needed to overcome a two-run deficit late to force extra innings.
Â
The Storm started out with a 2-0 lead on RBI singles by
Sydney Kramer and
Conner Harmon in the top of the first, but the Bisons would get a run back in the bottom half to make it 2-1.
Â
The home team would swipe the lead with a two-run triple in the third, but
Jordyn James would answer with an RBI groundout which scored
Ashton Adkins to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth.
Â
In the fifth inning Adkins would drive in
Destiny Riddle on a fielder's choice to take a 4-3 lead.
Â
A pair of doubles by OBU in the bottom of the fifth would regain them the lead 6-4.
Â
Southeastern would get the two runs it needed to tie the game in the sixth inning when
Jessica Simmons and
Courtney Riddle came home when Kramer reached on an error to tie the game at 6-6.
Â
And just like game two on Friday the Storm wasted little time in extras to get on the board, this time with
Courtney Riddle connecting on a solo homer to take a 7-6 lead.
Â
Later in the inning
Laramie Beal would double in a pair of runs to push the lead to 9-6.
Â
OBU would get a leadoff double but
Jessica Seay would get the next three in order to preserve the win.
Â
Seay got the start and picked up the win after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits with a strikeout.
Â
Emily Cudd tossed 1.2 innings in relief and allowed three runs on four hits.
Â
At the plate Beal turned in a 3-for-5 outing with a pair of RBI, while
Courtney Riddle went 2-for-2 after not starting and coming in as a pinch hitter for
Mykaela Wallace. She had an RBI on her solo homer with two runs scored.
Â
Six others would log a hit, while Kramer, Adkins, Harmon and James would each add an RBI.
Â
SE scored first in the opener as well, first with
Keeshia Thompson connecting on her third home run of the weekend followed by a Harmon RBI bunt single to score Simmons for a 2-0 lead midway through the third.
Â
However, OBU would answer with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and push its lead to 6-2 with two more in the fourth inning.
Â
An RBI triple by Harmon followed by a Beal RBI single and a
Destiny Riddle sac fly would bring in three runs total and cut the deficit to 6-5 midway through the fifth.
Â
But again, the Bison had an answer in the bottom half of the inning with three runs to open up a 9-5 lead.
Â
Adkins would single home Kramer in the seventh, but the rally would not materialize in the 9-6 loss.
Â
Harmon and Kramer each posted 3-for-4 outings, with Harmon driving in a pair of runs.
Â
Beal added two hits and an RBI, while four others logged a hit with
Destiny Riddle, Adkins and Thompson driving in a run each.
Â
All five Southeastern pitchers appeared in the game, with Seay getting the start and taking the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Â
Cudd would allow two runs on two hits in an inning of work, while
Hunter Offill allowed three unearned runs on two hits in an inning of work.
Â
Destiny Riddle allowed a hit in two-thirds of an inning and
Ashley Moore recorded an inning of work by facing the minimum.
