Southeastern Downs CU, Falls to MSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Southeastern opened with a back-and-forth 3-2 win over Cameron, but fell in the finale of the MSU Hampton Inn-Vitational to host Midwestern State, 3-0, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
 
The split leaves the Storm at 5-3 on the season heading into the GAC-MIAA Crossover on Sept. 16-17 in Shawnee, Okla.
 
The Storm put five players in double-digit kills in a 3-2 win over the Aggies, led by 17 from Abby Jameson.
 
She was joined by Julia Benford with 15, Karine Cavalcante added 14, with Arianna Baker and Erika Costain adding 10 each.
 
Alissa Benson dished out 63 assists to pace the offense and turned in a double-double with 22 digs.
 
Caitlin Cosby led the way in digs with 25, while Cavalcante, Costain and Kristi Carter each reached double-digits.  SE racked up 106 digs as a team in the match.
 
The Aggies took the opening set 25-17, but SE answered with a 25-19 win in set two to even the match.
 
The teams would trade again with CU taking the third set 25-22 and the Storm picking up a 25-23 win to push a fifth set.
 
That set went Southeastern's way with a 15-9 win to seal a 3-2 win.
 
The finale was not as kind to the Storm as the host Mustangs held SE to 28 kills in the match in a 3-0 loss.
 
Cavalcante turned in 10 kills to lead the offense, while Benson handed out 19 assists.
 
Benson and Cavalcante led the way in digs with 11 and 10, respectively.
 
SE dropped the opener 25-19 and fell behind 2-0 with a 25-21 loss in the second set.  MSU would finish the match off with a 25-15 win in the final set.
