DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern racked up 332 yards rushing led by a 213 yard effort from
Devlon Wortham en route to a 45-14 homecoming win over Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at Paul Laird Field.
The win was the team's third-straight and lifted SE to 3-1 on the year overall and in league play. It was also the third straight win on Homecoming and moved its series record with SNU to 4-0.
Wortham turned in his first 200-yard rushing outing since going for 228 against Southern Arkansas to open the 2014 season. His 213 yards lifted him to 2,781 yards for his career to pass Baylen Laury for second on the all-time list, just 126 yards shy of Earnest Hunter's all-time career record of 2,907 yards. He finished Saturday with 13 carries, averaging 16.4 yards per carry, and a touchdown.
Ronnie Green just missed a 100-yard outing, finishing with 99 yards on 23 carries, but did get in the end zone three times
CB Cantwell completed 80 percent of his passes, going 16-of-20 for 161 yards and a pair of scores.
He hit eight different receivers on the day, led by
Ty Miller with five catches for 45 yards, while
Jordan Hester, Anterric Maxey-Meshilaya,
Justin Walker and Green each had a pair of catches.
Miller and
Bryce Steele each snagged touchdown receptions.
The defense forced three turnovers with
Jaden Moore snagging his first interceptions, while
Raheem Wilson and Jonathon Torres each recovering a fumble.
Kevin Jones logged eight tackles to lead the way, while
Orlando Swift added seven stops with
Rob Gardner,
Brickey Reed and
Damarius Lavender picking up six tackles apiece.
SNU got on the board first when Jacob Spady went 35 yards for a score and a 7-0 lead on their opening drive with 11:59 to go in the first.
The Storm would answer at the 9:05 mark when Green capped a seven-play, 42 yard drive with a two yard plunge to tie the game at 7-7.
The would follow up with a 97 yard, 15 play drive which saw Cantwell hit Miller for a four yard score and a 14-7 lead with 2:33 to play in the half.
SE would get the ball back with 33 seconds to play and move the ball 55 yards on seven plays before
Joel Carlos connected on a 29 yard field goal with no time on the clock to take a 17-7 lead at the half.
The Storm would get the kickoff to start the second half and take the first drive 49 yards on eight plays for a Cantwell to Steele eight yard score to open up a 24-7 lead with 11:57 to play in the third quarter.
Orlando Swift would force a fumble which was recovered by
Raheem Wilson to end SNU's ensuing drive and one play later Wortham carried 39 yards for a touchdown to open up a 31-7 lead at the 10:18 mark of the third quarter.
Two plays into the fourth quarter Green would score from four yards out to open up a 38-14 lead.
After trading turnovers the Storm got a nine yard run followed by a 58 yard run from Wortham down to the SNU one yardline where Green would punch it in for his third rushing TD of the day to go up 45-14.
That would hold to be the final score after the SE defense held on a goal line stand for its second red zone stop of the game on SNU's final drive.
