Savage Storm Tripped Up by SNU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern's woes continued on Saturday night as errors proved costly in a 3-0 loss to Southern Nazarene in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

The loss was the third-straight for the Savage Storm who dip to 7-8 overall but 0-3 in Great American Conference play.

Southeastern will be back in action Sept. 30 when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

As a team SE was saddled with 15 errors across from 34 kills on 98 attempts to hit .194 for the match, while the Crimson Storm had eight miscues on offense and 44 kills in 93 tries and hit .387 to provide the difference.

Southeastern kept the first set tight, going back-and-forth for the first half of the set before falling behind.  They would rally to knot the game at 17-17 and again at 19-19, but SNU would score six of the final eight points to take the set 25-21.

The second set had a similar feel as the Storm stayed within a point for most of the set before a late Crimson Storm run to take five of the last seven points put SE in a 2-0 hole with a 25-20 loss in the set.

The Storm was never able to get going in the final set, falling behind 11-3 early before closing the gap slightly to a seven point deficit. However, SNU closed strong again with seven of the last nine points for a 25-11 win in the clinching set.

Abby Jameson's eight kills led the Storm, while Karine Cavalcante and Julia Benford added seven with Arianna Baker right behind with six.

Alissa Benson dished out 25 assists along with six digs, while Makenna Stillwell added five helpers in one set.

Caitlin Cosby continued to shine on defense with 15 digs over three sets to lead all defenders in the match, while Cavalcante added nine.

Cavalcante and Benford each had a pair of blocks.
