Fourth-Quarter Shooting Goes Cold in SE Loss

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern saw its long range shooting go cold in the fourth quarter as its lead evaporated in an 87-79 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday night in Weatherford, Okla.

The loss dropped the Savage Storm to 8-6 on the season overall and 6-4 in Great American conference play heading into a four day break before hosting Southern Nazarene on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The game was delayed for nearly an hour as the officials scheduled for the contest were no-shows, leading to the officials scheduled for the men's game to pull double duty and call the first game of the double-header as well.

SE led heading into the final quarter 64-59, but finished the final frame just 2-of-13 from behind the arc, including streaks of 0-for-6 and one to finish the game of 0-for-5.

The lead in the fourth grew to as many as eight points before a 10-1 run by SWOSU gave the home team the lead for the final time.

The Storm was unable to answer, keeping the game within a possession until the Bulldogs scored eight of the final 10 points.

Olivia Potter paced the SE offense with 19 which included a trio of threes, while Katie Webb and Courtney Brady added 10 each and Rachel Wallace chipped in 10.

Sa'Liesha Hunter finished with nine and a team-high three assists.

Webb owned the glass with a game-high 17 rebounds as the Storm collected 51 as a team.

Both teams started off slow and SWOSU led 14-12 after the first quarter, but the pace picked up considerably in the second quarter where the Bulldogs held a 27-26 edge and took a 41-38 lead to the break.

The Storm matched its 26 points again in the third quarter, erasing what was as much as a seven point deficit, to take a 60-59 lead on a Potter three with 1:19 to play in the third, ultimately taking a 64-59 lead into the fourth quarter.
