DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern put a trio of scorers in double figures and trailed for less than a minute in the entire contest as it held on for a 65-58 victory over Southern Nazarene on Monday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
With the win the Savage Storm move to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in Great American Conference play, and are tied for third in the league at the midway point of the conference slate.
Â
Olivia Potter hit a trio of threes and
Emem David went 7-of-10 at the free throw line to power themselves to matching 13 points nights to lead all scorers.
Â
Katie Webb joined them in double-digits with 10 points, and wrapped up a double-double with 11 rebounds to lead all players on the glass.
Â
Ariannah Kemp added eight points, while
Sa'Liesha Hunter and
Rachel Wallace each chipped in six.
Â
Hunter also dished out a game-high six assists.
Â
Both teams finished with 43 rebounds on a night when both teams shot 33.3 percent from the floor, with David adding eight rebounds to Webb's 11 while Kemp turned in seven.
Â
The game got off to a slow start with SE opening up a 6-2 lead by the midway point of the first quarter, and despite briefly trailing 9-8 with two minutes to go the Storm would take a 14-9 lead into the first intermission.
Â
Southeastern opened that lead up to 21-12 on a Hunter three by the midway point of the second quarter and would eventually take a 28-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Â
SNU would erase the deficit in the third quarter, tying the game at the 6:43 mark and eventually taking a 33-32 lead with 6:16 to play.
Â
They would trade buckets and the Crimson Storm would lead once more less than minute later, but a Hunter three would answer the threat and an
Alix Robinson three with 4:400 to play would regain them the lead for good as they took a 48-44 lead into the fourth quarter.
Â
SNU would trim SE's lead to four points twice, with the last coming at the 3:02 mark, but a Potter jumper would answer and the Storm would pull out the 65-58 victory.
