SE Tumbles in Non-Conference Tilt

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern's offense never really caught traction as it dropped a midweek, non-conference matchup with Texas A&M-Commerce 3-0 on Tuesday night in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 5-13 on the season heading into a pair of big Great American Conference matches on Oct. 6 and 7 versus Harding and Arkansas Tech, respectively.

"Commerce is a strong team," said head coach Brianna Barry, "We played them in preseason and they run a pretty quick offense, so it was hard for our girls to register that. We had moment we looked pretty strong, but we have to come together as a team and figure out ways to win. That's how we struggle right now, is finding ways to win."

"Commerce is tough," she continued, "But we can't dwell on it. We have two very important matches this weekend for our conference, and we have to refocus on the next few days of practice."

SE was outkilled 44-to-28 in the match, but was hurt even more by errors as the team committed 19.

Hannah Grant and Caroline Griffith led the Storm offense with six kills each, while Arianna Baker added five and Abby Jameson chipped in four over two sets of work.

Alissa Benson came off the bench in her first action in six matches and dished out 17 assists in her return while adding a kill and five digs.

Caitlin Cosby led all defenders on the back row with 17 digs on the night, with Benson's five next in line.

At the net, Baker, Grant, Jameson and Hallie Smith each recorded one block.

SE dropped the opening set 25-13, but closed the gap in the second to 25-16 and continued to close the gap in the third, but was unable to hold off a 25-18 defeat in the clinching set.
