Storm Drops Season Opener to UCO

DURANT, Okla. – Katie Webb and Alix Robinson each scored in double figures, but were unable to hang on in the season opener, falling 70-62 to Central Oklahoma on Friday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena as part of the GAC/MIAA Challenge.
 
The loss moves them to 0-1 and they will face Northeastern State at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
 
Webb finished the contest shooting 6-11 for 15 points, while Robinson hit three threes en route to her 12 point outing.
 
Ariannah Kemp added nine points off the bench, while Taten Hyde was the top scoring newcomer with seven.
 
Courtney Brady dished out a team-high six assists, while Webb added three.
 
The Storm shot 43.1 percent from the floor for the game, but suffered at the free throw line where they hit just 57.1 percent of their attempts.
 
SE led by as many as seven with 2:31 to go in the third quarter of a game that saw eight ties and six lead changes.
 
The first quarter was tight with neither team leading by more than four points before UCO took a 16-13 lead into the first break.
 
The Storm would finally erase the deficit in the second quarter, taking a 23-22 lead on a Katie Branam three, but would ultimately go to the half down 31-30.
 
Southeastern put together a 10-0 run in the third, starting with a Robinson free throw and ending with a Hyde jumper to take a 47-40 lead and would hold a 50-46 lead heading to the fourth.
 
SE would maintain its lead until the 7:15 mark when UCO knotted the game at 54-54 and after trading buckets the Bronchos would regain the lead at 61-58 with 3:52 to play and pull ahead to hand the Storm a 70-62 loss.
