Savage Storm Splits Final Day Action

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern finished out the Southeastern Regional; Invitational with a split on Sunday, downing Emporia State 12-5 before falling in the finale 4-3 against Pitt State at the Durant Multi-Sport Complex.

The split moves the Savage Storm to 4-2 after the opening weekend of competition.

In the day's opener, Kennedy Salyers, Destiny Riddle andf Mykaela Wallace each posted three hits, while Jordyn James and Keeshia Thompson connected on two apiece.

James would finish the contest with five RBI, while Conner Harmon drove in three, with Symphoni Shomo and Riddle each adding one.

Emily Cudd collected her third win of the season after allowing five unearned runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Salyers and Riddle each scored on an error in the first inning to mount a 2-0 lead, which quickly expanded on an RBI single by Riddle and a three-run homer by James in the second to open up a 6-0 advantage.

ESU would pick up a run in the third and four more in the fourth to close it to 6-5, but James would get the Storm offense moving again with a two-run single in the fourth.

That was followed a batter later by a three-run Harmon homer to go up 11-5 after four.

Shomo would double home Thompson in the sixth to make the 12-5 final score.

Shomo and Wallace each posted a pair of hits in the finale, with Shomo, Salyers and Brittany Chatellier each driving in a run.

Hunter Offill got the start and suffered the loss after going one-third of an inning and allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits.

Ashley Moore would toss the next 6.1 innings of scoreless ball, scattering three hits and striking out two.  Cudd would record the final out, facing just one batter.

The Gorillas posted four runs in the top of the first and had SE playing catch up for the game as a Chatellier double would cut into the deficit in the second by scoring Wallace.

A Shomo RBI single and a Salyers RBI double in the fourth would close it to a 4-3 game, but that was where the rally would end.
