Softball Suffers Pair of Walk-off Losses

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite staying close in a pair of pitcher's duels, Southeastern suffered back-to-back walk-off losses on Friday afternoon, dropping game one 1-0 in nine innings and game two 2-1, against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The losses drops the Savage Storm to 11-11 on the season and 5-7 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series slated for 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Storm offense found no traction in game one as it was no-hit for the first time in nearly 70 games.

Destiny Riddle reached by an error on the first play of the contest, and SE would have a baserunner in the third when Emily Cudd struck out but reached on a wild pitch.

It's best scoring chance came in the eighth when Ashton Adkins reached on an error, moved to second on a Mykaela Wallace sac bunt and then stole third, but was stranded there.

Cudd would start and toss 7.1 innings, but took a no decision after scattering eight hits and giving up no runs.

Riddle would take the loss after allowing an unearned run on no hits with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning pitched.

In game two Ashley Moore got the start and scattered four hits without allowing a run while striking out two in 4.2 innings pitched but finished with a no decision.

Riddle came on to toss an inning in relief and allowed a hit and struck out one, while Cudd suffer the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits in two-third of an inning pitched.

Symphoni Shomo, Conner Harmon, Marisa Fleck and Brittany Chatellier each collected a hit, but it was Fleck's solo homer in the sixth that brought home SE's lone run.

That sixth-inning homer was the first score of the game, but HSU would answer with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.

They would then take advantage of a Storm error in the seventh and eventually collect a one-out single to plate the game-winning run.
