Softball Closes HSU Series With Split

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Neither of Southeastern's games on Saturday went the scheduled number of innings as it fell to Henderson State 10-1 in six innings in the day's opener, but closed out the series with a 4-2 win in 11 innings in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
The split saves the Savage Storm from being swept and moves them to 12-12 overall on the season and 6-8 in Great American Conference play.
 
In the series finale Emily Cudd got the start and tossed 10.1 inning while allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts to collect her 10th win of the season.
 
Destiny Riddle faced three batters and recorded two-third of an inning, getting both of those outs by the strikeout.
 
Marisa Fleck turned in a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with a home run and a pair of doubles to go with two RBI and two runs scored.
 
Mykaela Wallace added a 2-for-4 effort with a pair of RBI.
 
Kennedy Salyer would also add a double and Jordyn James was 1-for-1.
 
The Storm took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Ashton Adkins scored on a Wallace fielder's choice, but the Reddies answered with runs off a bases loaded walk and a bases loaded HBP in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-1 lead.
 
In the seventh Fleck would collect a one-out double, then two batters later Wallace would add a two-out RBI single to score Fleck and knot the score at 2-2.
 
The teams would play three scoreless extra innings before Salyers reached with one out in the top of the 11th on an error and two batters later Fleck would homer to right center to put the Storm up 402 which would prove to be the final score.
 
In the first game of the day Riddle, Symphoni Shomo and Fleck would each collect a hit.
 
Ashley Moore would get the start and toss 5.0 innings while allowing 10 runs, nine of them earned, on 10 hits.
 
Riddle would toss 0.2 innings and allow one hit in three batters faced.
 
Shomo would actually put SE up 1-0 in the top of the first when she single with one out and proceeded to steal second and third before scoring when the throw to third went past the thirdbaseman.
 
HSU would respond by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Reddies would add a run in the third to take a 2-1 lead before opening up with a three-run fourth to mount a 5-1 edge and finally invoking the run-rule in the sixth when they exploded for five more runs to make the final 10-1.
