Softball Splits on Sunday Versus OBU

DURANT, Okla. – Despite piling up 14 runs and 22 hits over two games, Southeastern was only able to earn a split on Sunday against Ouachita Baptist, winning the opener 7-4 before dropping the series finale 12-7 at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The split, combined with a split on Saturday leaves the Savage Storm at .500 on the year with a 14-14 mark overall and an 8-10 record in Great American conference play.

In the opener, Keeshia Thompson collected a third of the team's nine hits, going 3-for-4 on the contest with a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Six others collected one hit apiece, with Destiny Riddle and Mykaela Wallace driving in two runs each while Ashton Adkins added one RBI.

Emily Cudd collected the win, her 11th, after tossing 6.2 innings and allowing four runs on nine hits, while Riddle tossed a third of an inning in relief and allowed a hit.

OBU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Shomo would score on a Riddle sac bunt to even the score at 1-1.

An Adkins sac fly in the second and a Wallace RBI walk in the third inning would open up a 3-1 lead after three innings.

The Tigers would get a two-run homer in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3, but that would not last long.

A Riddle single would plate Shomo to regain the lead and start scoring in the bottom of the fourth and three batters later Thompson would drive in a pair with an RBI single to open a 6-3 lead.

A batter later a Wallace double would move that lead to 7-3 After four innings.

OBU would tack on a run in the sixth, but the Storm would hold on for a 7-4 victory.

Riddle would finish 4-for-4 in the finale with an RBI and two runs scored, while Conner Harmon added three hits with Shomo and Wallace posting two-hit outings.

Thompson would drive in three runs, while Riddle, Harmon, Wallace and Marisa Fleck added an RBI each.

Four pitchers would see action for the Storm with Ashley Moore getting the start and the loss after allowing five runs, only two of which were earned, on four hits with one strikeout.

Riddle would toss 2.2 innings in relief and allow just one hit and strikeout three, while it was Cudd who was touched up for five runs, four earned, on six hits in 1.1 innings pitched.

Kennedy Salyers would toss two-thirds of an inning and was accountable for two runs on two hits.

Each team posted three-run first innings, with SE's coming on a three-run shot by Thompson.

Riddle would put the Storm in front in the second inning with an RBI single to plate Brittany Chatellier for a 4-3 lead.

However, OBU would score three in the fourth and four more in the fifth to open up a 10-4 advantage.

Back-to-back-to-back RBI singles by Harmon, Wallace, and Fleck in the fifth inning would close the gap to 10-7.

Unfortunately the Tigers would add two more runs in the sixth and the SE offense was unable to answer, falling 12-7.
