DURANT, Okla. – Despite returning to the Durant Multi-Sports Complex to finish what was supposed to be the opening contest of a road series, Southeastern was unable to pick up any home momentum and dropped both ends of the double header 8-4 and 6-3 on Thursday.
Â
The four-game series was originally slated to be played in Bethany, but rain suspended game one and after deliberation the series was shifted to Durant, with the suspended game and game two of the series to be played on Thursday night at the Multi-Sports complex, while the final two games of the series will be played at the Southeastern Softball field beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Â
Southeastern scored first in the opener with
Symphoni Shomo coming in on a wild pitch and
Keeshia Thompson connecting on a solo homer in the top of the first.
Â
SNU would answer with four runs in the bottom of the first and add a run in the second and another in the third to open up a 6-1 lead.
Â
The Storm would add a run in the top of the fourth on an Asthon Adkins RBI infield single, and load the bases with one out when the rain came and suspended play.
Â
When play resumed in Durant more than four hours later the Storm were unable to bring home another run.
Â
The Crimson Storm added two more runs in the bottom half to open up an 8-3 lead after four.
Â
An RBI single by Shomo in the sixth would score Adkins and cut into the deficit but would also be the final runs of the game in an 8-4 final. Â
Â
Adkins came off the bench to turn in a pair of hit, while seven others had one hit each.
Â
Adkins, Thompson and Shomo each recorded an RBI.
Â
Emily Cudd got the start and was tagged for seven runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings pitched, but it was
Destiny Riddle who took the loss after recording one-third of an inning pitched and allowing a run on no hits.
Â
In the nightcap, Shomo would post a two-hit outing on offense, with five others turning in a hit each.
Â
Adkins would drive in a pair of runs in the contest, while
Mykaela Wallace added an RBI.
Â
Riddle got the start and went the distance in game two, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits in 6.0 innings pitched with a strikeout.
Â
SNU opened scoring in the game with a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Storm answered when Adkins drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Thompson and make it 2-1.
Â
However, the Crimson Storm would tack on four runs in the bottom of the second to open up a 6-1 advantage.
Â
A Wallace RBI double and an Adkins RBi single, both in the fourth inning would cut into the gap and make it 6-3, but that was as close as it would get.
