Southeastern Rallies to Win GAC Opener

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southeastern rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit, taking the lead with under a minute to play and holding on for a 78-76 victory over Oklahoma Baptist in its Great American Conference opener on Thursday night in Shawnee, Okla.
 
The Savage Storm get back in the win column and move their record to 2-2 on the season and open league play 1-0 heading into Saturday's matchup with Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla., at 1 p.m.
 
Katie Webb led all scorers on the night with 19 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and draining the only three she took on the evening.
 
Katie Branam nearly matched Webb, turning in a season-high 18 points and shooting 7-of-10 from the floor, including a 4-of-6 mark from behind the arc.
 
Alix Robinson hit four threes as well and finished with 12 points on the night, while Kamryn Cantwell added 10 points, including a 4-for-4 effort at the free throw line.
 
Robinson and Tracy Johnson dished out five assists apiece, while Webb added four.
 
SE finished the contest shooting 46.4 percent from the floor, including a 50.0 percent effort in the second half.  The Storm also finished the contest shooting 46.2 percent from behind the arc, hitting 12 threes.
 
Webb and Cantwell led the way on the boards with seven rebounds each, while Robinson hauled in five.
 
The Storm struggled in the first quarter as OBU reeled off a 15-3 run to take a 26-15 lead at the end of the first.
 
The Bison would keep the Storm at arms-length in the second quarter, stretching its lead to 44-32 at the halftime break.
 
The deficit would grow to 13 points early in the third quarter, but the Storm would finish the quarter on a 12-4 run to narrow the gap down to 60-56 heading to the fourth quarter.
 
OBU would maintain the narrow lead through most of the fourth quarter until Webb connected on a jumper to go up 75-74 with 47 seconds to play.
 
A free throw by Johnson, and two by Cantwell with six second to play would ice the 78-76 victory.
