SE Splits With Pair of MIAA Foes

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern bounced back from a 5-2 loss to open the day against Washburn to earn a 5-1 win over Missouri Southern State in game two to split with a pair of MIAA opponents at the Southeastern Regional Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Durant, Multi-Sports Complex.

The split moves the Savage Storm to 2-2 on the year heading into a Sunday triple-header beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Destiny Riddle collected a pair of hits in the win over MSSU, adding an RBI, while Symphoni Shomo drove in two with one hit while Sydnee Hinkle and Elexis Watson each drove in a run as well.

Kelsey Story picked up her second win in as many starts after tossing her second-straight complete game, despite scattering nine hits she was tagged for one unearned run and struck out three.

The Lions got on the board with a run in the top of the first and the offenses stayed quiet until the Storm exploded in the bottom of the fourth as Riddle and Hinkle each drove in a run on a hit before Shomo plated two to open up a 4-1 lead.

Watson would squeeze home a pinch-running Marylin Maas in the bottom of the sixth to tack on an insurance run and make the final score 5-1.

In the opener Washburn jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and carried a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning before the Storm looked to mount a rally.

Hinkle connected on a two-out double to left center and Salyers followed with an RBI double to get on the board.

Keeshia Thompson followed with her own RBI double to plate Salyers, but the rally would come to an end with the tying run at the plate.

Salyers finished the game with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Thompson added the other RBI.

Emily Cudd got the start and tossed 4.0 innings in the loss, allowing three runs on six hits with a strikeout, with Riddle coming on in relief to toss 3.0 innings and allowing two runs on two hits with a K.
