DURANT, Okla. –
Briley Moon and
Kamryn Cantwell each topped the 20-point plateau and Southeastern shot 53.6 percent from the field en route to an 85-76 victory over No. 17 Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The Savage Storm improve to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in Great American Conference play and will be back in action on Nov. 26 when it travels to Commerce, Texas, to take on Texas A&M-Commerce at 6 p.m.
The win also snaps a 23-game regular season conference game winning streak put together by SWOSU, giving them their first loss in a GAC game since Feb. 24, 2018.
Moon finished with a career-high 28 points, 22 of them in the first half, and finished with four threes, while Cantwell dropped 20 on 7-of-13 shooting.
Katie Webb added 15 points, with
Logan Oestreich next in line with six.
Cantwell flirted with a triple-double, dishing out a game-high eight assists and hauling in eight rebounds.
Webb did complete a double-double by pulling down 10 rebounds, while Oestreich pulled down 10 as well.
The first quarter was a track meet as the Storm opened the game with eight-straight points, but in the flurry of points the lead would disappear and SE went to the first quarter break trailing 28-25.
Southeastern found its answer in the second quarter, retaking the lead on three-straight trips as Moon connected from three on each one, ultimately taking a 40-39 lead with 5:12 to go in the first half.
The Storm would hang onto that edge, eventually pushing it out to a 48-43 lead at halftime as Cantwell closed the half with a bucket.
SWOSU would hit a three to open the second half, but the Storm answered with a 13-2 run capped by a Webb layup to take a 61-48 lead with 2:20 to go in the third.
The Bulldogs would trim the difference back to single digits briefly before a
Neely Noel three would give SE a 66-55 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
SWOSU would twice cut the Storm lead to four points, the last time coming at 74-70 with 2:45 remaining, but the Storm would score 11 of the final 17 points to hold on for an 85-76 victory.
