EDMOND, Okla. – Southeastern's offense struggled to push runs home on day one of the Raising Cane's Edmond Softball Festival, dropping its opener against Rogers State 2-0 before finishing the day with an 11-0 loss to Cameron in Edmond, Okla.
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-7 on the season with a 10 a.m. matchup against Northeastern State on Feb. 11, followed by a noon contest against Central Oklahoma.
In the opener versus the Hillcats,
Keeshia Thompson,
Destiny Riddle, and
Ivy Amador each collected a hit, while
Katie McCullar and
Karsyn Brigance drew a pair of walks apiece.
Riddle got the start in the circle and took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over 4.2 innings pitched with a pair of strikeouts.
McCullar came on in relief and struck out three of the four batters she faced.
SE stranded a runner in scoring position in the second inning and fell behind in the bottom of the third on a leadoff home run for RSU.
The Storm left runners in scoring position again in the fourth and fifth innings before the Hillcats collected a second run in the bottom of the fifth and left SE down 2-0.
Southeastern would load the bases with two outs in the sixth but were again unable to score, ultimately falling by a score of 2-0.
Against the Aggies,
Elexis Watson,
Felicia Drake,
Symphoni Shomo, Brigance, and
Kennedy Salyers each collected a hit.
McCullar got the start and suffered the loss after allowing three runs on five hits over two innings pitched.
Emily Cudd came on in relief and allowed five runs on three hits over 1.1 innings of work before handing the ball to Salyers who allowed three runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
SE collected a pair of first-inning hits but was unable to score, with CU getting on the board with back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom half of the inning.
The deficit grew to 3-0 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single for the Aggies.
Southeastern would strand runners in the third and fourth innings and CU would take advantage in the bottom of the fourth by putting up eight runs to take an 11-0 lead after four innings.
SE was unable to mount a rally in the top of the fifth, falling 11-0 in five innings.
