Softball Tripped Up Twice on Final Day

CONROE, Texas – Southeastern's misfortune continued on the final day of the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational, dropping Sunday's opener against Washburn 12-1 before seeing a late rally fall short in a loss to Minnesota-Duluth, 6-4, in Conroe, Texas.
 
The losses drop the Savage Storm to 1-5 to open the season heading into a Feb. 9-10 trip to Edmond, Okla., for the UCO-OC Festival.
 
In the finale on Sunday, Mykaela Wallace turned in a 3-for-3 effort with an RBI, while Elexis Watson added two hits and two RBI and Symphoni Shomo connected on a pair of hits.
 
Keeshia Thompson and Ivy Amador each added a hit, while Amador added an RBI.
 
Katie McCullar got the start and allowed four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts over 6.1 innings of work.
 
Destiny Riddle came on in relief and allowed two runs on a hit with one K in two-thirds of an inning pitched.
 
UMD picked up a run in the top of the second inning, but the Storm found an answer in the bottom of the fourth to knot the game at 1-1 after Mykaela Wallace singled home Karsyn Brigance with a two-out RBI.
 
The Bulldogs would turn in five runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single and a pair of two-run homers to push their lead out to 6-1.
 
Southeastern loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, setting up a two-run double by Watson to cut the deficit in half to 6-3.
 
Amador followed a batter later with an RBI single to plate Riddle and close the gap to 6-4 which would hold to be the final.  
 
In the opener SE was led by Elexis Watson who had a pair of hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Ivy Amador added a two-hit outing as well.
 
Keeshia Thompson, Kamarie Wallace, Mykaela Wallace, and Kenndy Salyers each collected a hit as well.
 
Emily Cudd got the start and suffered the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits in an inning of work.
 
Salyers would make her first relief appearance of the season and allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits in 2.0 innings.
 
Watson followed with her first career pitching appearance and allowed a run on a hit in 2.0 innings.
 
Washburn jumped out early, taking advantage of an early error and got a two-run double followed by a two-run homer to open a 4-0 lead which would expand to 7-0 by the end of the top of the first inning.
 
Thompson opened with a single and came around to score on a Watson single to cut into the deficit and make it 7-1.
 
However, the Ichabods would add three runs in the second and one each in the third and the fourth while the Storm would strand nine runners from the second through the fifth innings and suffer the 12-1 loss in five innings.
