SE Drops Tight Matchups in Final Weekend

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern closed out the regular season slate with a pair of tightly contested home losses, falling 5-2 to Southwest Baptist before a narrow 4-3 defeat in the season finale at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
The losses drop the Savage Storm to 8-6 overall on the season heading into the Great American Conference tournament where they will face second-seeded Ouachita Baptist as the number three seed at 10:30 a.m. on April 26 in Bentonville, Ark.
 
The defeats end a four-match winning streak for the Storm who, despite the losses, have won seven of their last 11 matches.
 
SE dropped the doubles point versus SBU in the opener and entered singles playing from behind.
 
Despite the setback, the Storm got off to a good start as Juan Scoppetta cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the one position over SBU's Gaber to even the score.
 
Ondrej Nice followed suit at number two in a tighter match, toughing out a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win to give the Storm s brief 2-1 lead.
 
Unfortunately, that was the last singles win SE would gather as SBU swept three-through-six to swipe a 5-2 decision.
 
In the season finale the SE would take the doubles point, opening play with a 6-2 win at two doubles by Danrich Kruger and Sandro Lena.
 
The point was secured when Scoppetta and Milos Vuckovic endured a marathon tiebreaker session to win the three doubles by a score of 7-6 (15-13).
 
Lena would carry his momentum into a singles win over Washburn's Haase by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
 
Benjamin Finet would add a win over WU's Casi at the five position to pick up a third point for the Storm, but Southeastern would drop three-set battles at one and four and the Ichabods would swipe the match by a 4-3 final score.
