DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern head coach
Nicole Solum picked up her first win at the helm of the Savage Storm with a 3-0 victory over Cameron to open play in the Southeastern Classic in Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant, Okla.

SE would fall in the nightcap by a 3-0 score to Colorado State-Pueblo, slipping to 1-5 on the season with day two matches in Durant against Texas-Tyler at 9 am and Union at 1 p.m.

"It's good to get the monkey off our back," said Solum of the win. "Truly a team effort all the way around. Lots of new faces stepped up and I like the direction my staff and I are going." Â

SE picked up its first win of the season in straight-set fashion with set wins of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-22.

Malaysia Burns paced the Storm attack with 20 kills over three sets, hitting .353 in the process.

She was followed closely by
Caroline Griffith who picked up eight kills, while
Hannah Grant and
Aleksandra Rodic who had seven kills each.

Jodi Dixon dished out 29 assists in the match to trigger the offense while adding a pair of kills and four digs.
Â
Defensively,
Caitlin Cosby picked up 18 digs over three sets to lead all defenders while Rodic turned in seven.
Â
At the net,
McKenzie Turkoly collected four blocks, while Griffith and Rodic added three each.

In the final Storm match of the day, the Storm was paced offensively by Rodic with 10 kills, while
Hannah Grant was right behind with nine and Turkoly chipped in six.

Arabella Bouchard led the Storm setter with 12 assists, while Dixon and
Sydney Meget each added seven.

On defense, Cosby pocked up 12 digs to lead the back row while Rodic added seven.

At the net, Burns led the way with three blocks, two of them solo.
