SAN ANGELO, Texas – Southeastern opened the 2019 season with a pair of tough road losses on day one of the ASU Invitational on Friday in San Angelo, Texas, drooping the opener to the host 3-1 before falling in five sets in the nightcap 3-2.

The Savage Storm will be back in action on Saturday with a matchup against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 8 a.m. before finishing the weekend against New Mexico Highlands at 2 p.m.

In the day's finale, SE was paced by
Hannah Grant who turned in 15 kills to lead the team, while
Malaysia Burns added 12 and
Aleksandra Rodic finished with 10 in the effort.

Arabella Bouchard handed out 37 assists in the effort while adding two kills, two aces and 14 digs.
Â
Caitlin Cosby had a monster outing with 34 digs in the match while
Grace Shehadeh had 12 and Rodic finished a double-double with 11.

SE dropped set one 25-17, but evened the score at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in set two.
Â
FLC would edge out the Storm in the third set 25-23 but again SE responded with a 25-21 win to tie the match at 2-2.

Unfortunately, Fort Lewis would pick up a 15-7 win in the deciding set to steal the match 3-2.

SE fell behind 2-0 in the opener versus Angelo State after dropping set one 25-7 and set two 25-11.

The Storm came roaring back in the third set, using a 5-1 run mid-set to take a six-point lead.
Â
SE would finish the match by winning three of the last four points for a 25-20 win to close the gap to 25-20.

Unfortunately, ASU would answer in the fourth set to cap the match 25-10 and hand SE a 3-1 loss.
Â
Taylor Robinson led the way for the Storm with eight kills, while
Aleksandra Rodic followed next in line with six kills.
Â
Arabella Bouchard triggered the offense with 14 assists while chipping in a block and four digs.
Â
Caitlin Cosby led the back row defense for SE with 11 digs, while Rodic added 10 and
Micah Stiggers finished just shy of double-figures with nine.
