Storm Rally Falls Short in Series-Opening loss

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern was in a pitcher's duel through five innings before a pair of errors would prove costly in the sixth innings as Oklahoma Baptist scored seven runs and a late Savage Storm rally would fall shorts in a 7-4 loss on Saturday afternoon in the Great American Conference opener at Mike Metheny Field.

The loss drops SE to 5-4 on the season and 0-1 in GAC play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon double-header on Sunday.

Six different Storm hitters collected a hit on the contest, with Colton Buckner, Slayde Ortiz, and Dylan Herd each driving in a run.

Jacob Potter got the start and held the Bison scoreless through six innings before allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts to suffer his first loss of the season.

Beau Swimmer came on in relief and was tagged for two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning of work.

Spencer Wallace checked in with two innings of work and allowed a hit while striking out two with Jason Porter tossing the final inning, striking out one and not allowing a hit.

OBU scored all seven of its runs in the sixth inning, taking advantage of a pair of errors along with four hits to take a 7-0 lead.

A Herd RBI single in the seventh would get the Storm on the board.

Richard Ware would score on an error after a Davis Jenks single in the eighth and later in the inning Ortiz would bring home Grant Bruce on a sac fly to make the score 7-3.

A Buckner double in the bottom of the ninth would plate Chris Eusay and close the gap to 7-4, but the Storm would strand runners at second and third with the tying run at the plate.
