SE Offense Struggles in Loss

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Southeastern was held to its lowest offensive output of the season, shooting 32.6 percent from the field in a 62-44 road loss to Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday afternoon in Monticello, Ark.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 17-7 overall on the season and 14-6 in Great American Conference play heading into the final two games of the regular season.

Kamryn Cantwell was the only SE player to reach double-figures, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting with three threes.

Katie Webb was next in line with nine points and was held to single digits for just the second time this season. She was also one-point shy of a double-double after hauling in 10 rebounds.

Briley Moon added eight points while Neely Noel turned in six off the bench.

Southeastern shot nearly identical in the first and second quarters, hitting 41.7 percent in each with the only difference being a 4-for-8 effort from long range in the first and a 3-for-8 mark in the second.

The Storm finished with seven threes in the first half, with Cantwell putting up all three of hers over the first 20 minutes to score nine points.

Turnovers throughout the game, starting in the first half would prove to be the biggest difference as 12 first-half turnovers became 18 UAM points as the Storm trailed 35-28 at halftime.

The third quarter turned south for SE as six turnovers slowed the pace and an 18.2 percent shooting effort kept them from taking advantage of a nearly equally poor shooting performance by the Cotton Blossoms as UAM wont he quarter 9-8 and the Storm trailed 44-36 after three.

The fourth quarter felt like more of the same as Southeastern was once again held to eight points while UAM put up 18 to pull away for the 62-44 final score.
