SE Survives Late Rally in Series Opener

DURANT, Okla. – After Jacob Potter tossed eight scoreless innings Southeastern would have to survive some ninth-inning dramatics to hold off Northeastern State for a 3-2 win in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 3-2 overall on the season with games two and three of the series slated for a noon double-header on Saturday.

Potter improved his record to 2-0 after tossing eight shutout innings and scattering four hits while striking out seven.

Kenneth Klier would open the ninth but was tagged for two runs on three hits with one strikeout before handing off to KC Bryan who logged his second save of the year by recording the final out.

At the plate Colton Buckner collected a pair of hits, including his second home runs of the year, while five others picked up a hit each, including Richard Ware who tallied his first homer of the season.

Slayde Ortiz would account for the other RBI with a run-scoring double.

A Buckner solo shot in the bottom of the second inning put the Storm on the board with a 1-0 lead.

Two innings later Ware would connect on his first homer of the season to stretch the lead to 2-0 after four innings.

After three scoreless innings for both teams the Storm would strike once more in the bottom of the eighth after Chris Eusay singled and Ware walked it would be Ortiz who connected on a two-out RBI double to plate Eusay and push the lead to 3-0.

That run would be key as NSU would score a pair of runs on a one-out two-run homer in the top of the ninth to close the gap to 3-2, but Bryan would come on to retire the final out and preserve the win.
