DURANT, Okla. –
Caroline Griffith and
Jadyn James combined for 25 kills, while five players reached double-figures in digs as Southeastern picked up a 3-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Friday night in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
Â
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 7-9 overall on the season and 4-4 in Great American Conference play heading into a Saturday matchup against Henderson State at 7 p.m. back in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
Â
Griffith led the SE offense with 13 kills, while James tacked on 12 kills and hitting .500 in the process.
Â
Skylor Lewis and
Ruthie Forson were next in line with nine kills each.
Â
Forson just missed out on a triple-double as she added 42 assists and 13 digs to her nine kills, as well as a trio of blocks and a pair of service aces.
Â
Lewis just missed a double-double with her nine kills as she added a team-high 21 digs to that total as well as a pair of aces herself.
Â
Grace Shehadeh was next in line with 17, while
Micah Stiggers picked up 15 and
McKenzie Turkoly added 12.
Â
Mya Afflerbach led the defense at the net with four blocks, while Griffith, Forson and James each collected three.
Â
After playing the opening set to a 12-12 tie, the Storm would reel off a 9-0 run, with eight-straight Fortson serves, to open up a 21-12 lead. After back-to-back OBU points, SE would take the final four and win the set 25-14.
Â
Despite a six-kill set from Griffith in set two, it was a 7-0 run late in the set that turned a 17-15 Storm lead into a 22-17 deficit. Southeastern would rally with three-straight kills, but the Tigers would hold on for a 25-23 win in the set to even the match at 1-1.
Â
Griffith's four kills would pace the Storm in the third set as they would break a 12-12 tie and not look back. SE would ultimately take six of the final eight points to hold on for a 25-17 win in the set and a 2-1 lead.
Â
In the fourth set, the Storm jumped ahead early, but an 11-2 run by OBU would leave SE trialing 17-14. The Southeastern offense would rally, led by
Madison Martinez and James who each had four kills in the set, and putting together an 11-3 run of their own to end the set with a 25-20 win and secure the 3-1 victory.
