Cantwell Scores 32 in SE Road Loss

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Kamryn Cantwell dropped a game-high 32 points to lead all scorers, but it was not enough to power Southeastern past Missouri Western State on Saturday afternoon in a 78-67 loss in St. Joseph, Mo.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 0-2 to open the season and will return home Nov. 17 to open the home portion of its schedule with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Arlington Baptist.

Cantwell was 12-of-20 from the field and 7-of-9 at the free throw line on her way to 32 points.

Briley Moon was next in line with 11 points, hitting 3-of-6 from three point range, while Chandler Kemp and Grace Alverson each added six points.

Moon pulled down a team-high six board, with Cantwell and Caitlin Kobiske next in line with four.

MWSU opened the contest on a 6-0 run but a Haiden Williams bucket and a Cantwell three would answer and close the gap to 6-5 three minutes into the game.

The Griffons would push their lead out to five points, but SE would chip away, taking a 13-12 lead on a Cantwell bucket with 4:15 to go in the quarter, but MWSU answered with a 9-0 run to go up 21-13 before the Storm finished the quarter with the final four point to make the gap 21-17.

The Griffons would push their lead out to 13 points twice in the second quarter, but a late Storm run would close the gap to just five points after a pair of Kentoya Woods free throws, but MWSU would ultimately take a 38-29 lead at halftime.

The Griffons would hit 10-of-19 in the third quarter and push its lead out to as many as 20 before SE close it to 65-47 to close the third.

Southeastern would put together a 10-0 run midway through the fourth quarter, closing the deficit to 72-62 after a Kemp bucket with 1:40 to play.

That was as close as the Storm would get though as the final ended up at 78-67.
