Southeastern Cruises Past ABU

DURANT, Okla. – Four players reached double figures and Southeastern drained 14 threes as a team en route to an 83-33 victory over Arlington Baptist on Wednesday night in the home opener at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 1-2 on the year heading into a Nov. 20 matchup with Texas Woman's at 1 p.m. back in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Briley Moon led the way with 16 points, hitting four threes, and shooting 6-of-13 form the floor overall.

Lauren Beason came off the bench and posted 13 thanks to a 3-of-5 effort form beyond the arc, while Grace Alverson joined her in adding 11 of her own points, including a trio of threes, to SE's 48 bench points on the night.

Kamryn Cantwell rounded out the double digit scorers with 10, while Jordan Benson finished with nine.  Caitlin Kobiske, Kentoya Woods, and Annie Anderle each chipped in six.

Cantwell also dished out a game-high six assists with Aimee Alverson next up with four.

Beason completed her first double-double by hauling in 11 rebounds to lead all players on the boards while Grace Alverson picked up six, with Moon and Benson pulling down five apiece.

As a team the Storm finished with 20 assists, snagged eight steals and blocked six shots, all while shooting 46.4 percent overall and hitting 14 threes.

Benson scored the game's first four points, but ABU would answer and actually hold a 5-4 lead in the early going before SE would regain its advantage but was unable to pull away.

The score remained at 12-11 with 3:37 to play in the first quarter, but the Storm would close out the frame strong with an 11-2 run that was capped by a Beason bucket at the buzzer to take a 23-13 lead after one quarter.

The second quarter was entirely SE pulling away as the Storm outscored the Patriots 16-7 with Cantwell and Grace Alverson each putting up five points to lead the charge in the quarter, giving Southeastern a 39-20 lead at halftime.

That advantage only grew in the third as the Storm exploded for a 26 point quarter while holding ABU to nine points, with Moon going a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc as the lead ballooned to 65-29.

The fourth quarter turned into more of the same as the Storm defense3 held the Patriots to just four points on 0-of-11 shooting, with the lone points coming on a 4-of-8 performance at the free throw line.

Meanwhile the SE offense saw Woods and Anderle come off the bench with six points apiece as the Storm shot 47.1 percent in the final frame, outscoring ABU 18-4 to make the final 83-33.
