Southeastern Stumbles vs. No. 23 OBU

DURANT, Okla. – A set of scoring runs in the first and third sets proved costly for Southeastern in a 3-0 loss to No. 23 Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 7-17 overall on the year and 4-10 in Great American Conference play heading into the final week of the regular season which begins on Nov. 9 with a key matchup in the home finale against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Madison Martinez led the Storm offense with eight kills, while Ruthie Forson and Caroline Griffith added six each and Mya Afflerbach finished with five.

Forson dished out 26 assists in addition to her six kills and added a service ace along with four digs.

The defense was led by Grace Shehadeh who posted 17 digs while Micah Stiggers and McKenzie Turkoly each added seven.

Afflerbach led the way at the net with two blocks.

After OBU jumped ahead early in set one the Storm rallied and closed the gap to 10-9 before the Bison responded with a 12-3 run that left SE in a 22-12 hole as OBU took the set 25-14.

The second set played out similarly over its first half, with the Bison mounting a five point lead before a late Southeastern rally would close the final score to 25-22 in favor of OBU. Martinez and Griffith would combine for 10 kills in the set, with Martinez leading the way with six.

Oklahoma Baptist jumped ahead early in the third set as well, but it was a 13-3 run midway through the set that stretched the Bison lead from 9-7 to 22-10. SE would take four of the final seven points but OBU would end up with the set by a 25-14 score.
