Storm Swept in GAC Opening Twinbill

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got off to a tough start in Great American Conference play, finding itself on the wrong end of a double-header sweep on Friday afternoon against Harding, falling 7-3 in game one before dropping the nightcap 6-3 at Mike Metheny Field.

The losses drop the Savage Storm to 3-2 overall on the year, but 0-2 in GAC play heading into the series finale slated for noon on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Matt Miles posted a pair of hits and drove in three on a homer in the fifth inning, while Colton Buckner, Slayde Ortiz, and Dylan Herd each added a hit.

Jacob Potter got the start and tossed 6.0 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out two while taking the loss.

Davis Jenks was tagged for two runs in one-third of an inning of work before handing off to Jacob Bigham who finished the inning and the next one while slowing a hit and striking out two.

Kenneth Klier would come on to finish the contest, striking out two in an inning of work.

The Bisons got on the board first in the series opener, taking advantage of three hits and a balk in the top of the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

That lead doubled in the fourth as HU connected on a one-out double and one batter later got two-run homer for a 4-0 lead midway through the inning.

SE found an answer in the bottom of the fifth as Joseph Ramirez reach on an HBP and Herd singled off the field umpire to set the table for Miles who sent an opposite field homer over the left field wall to close the gap to 4-3 after five innings.

The Bisons followed with a solo homer in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 5-3 and followed with a two-run shot to push its advantage out to 7-3 midway through the seventh inning and that would hold up as the final.

In the nightcap, Whitmarsh tossed 4.0 innings but was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out two.

Dylan Turner was then tagged for two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning in relief before KC Bryan came on to retire the final batter in that inning, doing so by strikeout.

Logan Teske would finish out the contest, tossing 2.0 innings and scattering three hits and striking out three.

Offensively Seth Morrow and Buckner each collected a pair of hits, while Miles, Richard Ware, and Herd each added one.

Buckner drove in all three runs, doing so with an RBI double and a two run homer.

The Storm opened scoring in game two with a Buckner RBI double in the bottom of the first which plated Ware for a 1-0 lead.

However, HU would answer with a pair of solo homers in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead.

Three innings later the Bisons would tack on three runs on five hits to push their lead to 6-1 midway through the fifth.

A Buckner two-run homer in the bottom half of the fifth would cut the deficit to 6-3, but that would be as close as the Storm would get as that 6-3 differential would become the final score.
